- Drew Lewis has been dominant thus far in 2017 for the Colorado Buffaloes and he has been displaying a three-tool linebacker skill-set as he is grading positively against the run, in coverage and as a pass-rusher. The JUCO-transfer only logged 47 snaps in 2016 and now has played 358 snaps through five games in 2017 and has been impressive each week.
- Lewis has been active in seeking out and bringing down ball carriers as a run defender. Thus far on the season Lewis has a very impressive 86.8 run defense grade. Lewis has 19 run stops on his 162 run defense snaps which ties him at No. 5 among FBS linebackers.
- In coverage, Lewis uses his speed to shut down underneath passes quickly. On his 147 snaps in pass coverage, Lewis has been targeted eight times and he has allowed five catches for 30 yards. He is currently posting a sound 82.3 coverage grade and the passer rating when throwing into his coverage is a lowly 69.8.
- Lewis has also used his athleticism to be an effective pass-rusher and has a 75.7 pass-rushing grade thus far in 2017. Lewis hasn’t collected a sack yet but does have four QB hits and 14 hurries on his on his 49 pass-rush snaps.
