The Los Angeles Chargers got back to .500 on the year with a win on the road against the New York Jets to cap off Week 9 of the 2023 NFL season.

Offensive spotlight: The Chargers offense got the job done, but it didn’t come easy against a strong Jets defense. Justin Herbert dealt with a lot of pressure, and he delivered only 136 yards passing. He was held without a passing touchdown for just the fifth time in his four-year career.

Austin Ekeler provided much of the offense, with two rushing touchdowns and 47 yards on the ground. Keenan Allen hit a career milestone of 10,000 receiving yards, doing so in style with an impressive catch that required a circus-like adjustment to haul in the pass.

The Jets offense continued to struggle under quarterback Zach Wilson, who completed 33 of his 49 passes for 263 yards and was held without a passing touchdown. Wilson also gave up a late fumble on his seventh sack of the game. Garrett Wilson was the primary contributor through the air, as he saw 13 targets and brought in seven of them for 80 yards.

Defensive spotlight: The Jets defensive line pressured Justin Herbert throughout this game, delivering five total sacks and 13 hits on the Chargers quarterback. Seemingly, every member of the Jets defensive line was able to get at least part of a sack in this one, aside from Quinnen Williams, interestingly enough, who is stuck at just a half-sack on the year.

The Chargers defensive line also made life difficult for Zach Wilson and the Jets offense, as the team came up with eight sacks and eight quarterback hits. Joey Bosa led the way with 2.5 sacks, including a forced fumble and fumble recovery. Khalil Mack also delivered two sacks with a forced fumble, as the Chargers’ defensive line was too much to handle for the Jets pass-blocking unit in this game.

Rookie spotlight: Tuli Tuipulotu has been a key addition to this Chargers defensive line after coming in as a second-round pick out of USC in this year’s draft. Tuipulotu matched his season total of two sacks in this game, bringing him to four in his impressive rookie season.
