The New York Jets rode into Mile High Stadium with added motivation, as Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton infamously took a shot at Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett for the job he did as Denver’s head coach in 2022. Payton’s Broncos fall to 1-4, and the one win was a miraculous comeback against the 1-4 Chicago Bears

Hackett cooked up a largely efficient offense led by Zach Wilson, losing both starting tackles in the game yet still managing 6.6 yards per play with 24 offensive points scored despite converting on zero of the offense's five red zone opportunities and just three of 12 third downs.

Offensive spotlight: Jets running back Breece Hall is no longer on a snap count and is back to racking up explosive gains, carrying the ball 22 times for 177 yards and a touchdown to go along with three receptions for 17 yards. Hall forced three missed tackles and averaged three yards after contact per rushing attempt.

Broncos running back Samaje Perine had four receptions for 73 yards, forcing two missed tackles and breaking off multiple explosive gains. Perine added 22 rushing yards on six carries. Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was the only other Broncos player with at least 30 receiving yards, racking up 50 yards on six catches.

Defensive spotlight: Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley was everywhere in this game, finishing with two tackles for loss or no gain and six more defensive stops. In coverage, Mosley allowed just 28 total yards and one first down on four targets into his coverage area. Fellow linebacker Quincy Williams recorded two sacks, including one on the Broncos' last drive that all but sealed the victory. Second-year edge defender Jermaine Johnson II continues to make impact plays week in and week out, and the consistency came in Week 5 as well, as Johnson logged four quarterback pressures and a sack on a 20.8% pass rush win rate.

Broncos interior defender Zach Allen, an expensive free agent addition this offseason, registered a 16.7% pass rush win rate and had four quarterback pressures plus a sack. Second-year edge defender Nik Bonitto added two sacks but they came on his only two pressures.

Rookie spotlight: Jets rookie guard Joe Tippmann did not have his best performance as a pass protector but played a role in the Jets' explosive run game with five positively graded run blocks out of his 29 total reps.

Broncos rookie running back Jaleel McLaughlin is explosive and shifty out of the backfield and as a pass-catcher, with the undrafted 5-foot-7, 187-pound back out of Youngstown State racking up 68 rushing yards on seven carries to go along with three receptions for 21 yards and a touchdown. McLaughlin had a forced missed tackle on first review.
