Offensive spotlight: Sam Howell couldn’t avoid the turnovers in this game, finishing with four interceptions from just 29 pass attempts. He was also sacked nine times, several of which he had a hand in. This game showcased all the negatives in Howell’s game, and even though he did some nice things overall, the bad was far too much to overcome and meant that Washington didn’t get any points on the board until the fourth quarter.
Defensive spotlight: Terrel Bernard was maybe the most impressive Bills defender in a game that wasn’t short of options for that spot. He snagged an outstanding interception, dropping underneath the pass and picking it off at full extension. He was also a factor as a pass-rusher, getting Howell on the ground on just five rushes as a blitzer.
Rookie spotlight: Washington rookie Emmanuel Forbes played 28 snaps on defense, with 16 coming in coverage. He was thrown at three times, allowing a catch on all three occasions for 34 yards, including one first down. He did come up with a defensive stop, but that good play will be offset by a missed tackle elsewhere on his tape.
