49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Garoppolo wasn’t able to throw Monday due to the injury that occurred in the second quarter of San Francisco’s loss to the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night. The 49ers QB went 26-of-35 for 322 yards with a touchdown but threw two interceptions and generated a 56.6 overall PFF grade.

Shanahan said the 49ers would evaluate Garoppolo again on Wednesday. If Garoppolo, who is 8-6 as a starter this season, can’t play Sunday against the Houston Texans, then 2021 first-round pick Trey Lance would be set to earn his second start of the season. Shanahan recently stated that Lance has had “the best consecutive four weeks of practice since we’ve had him.”
Lance is 25-of-48 for 354 yards with three passing touchdowns and one interception this season. He also has 30 carries for 137 yards with one rushing touchdown in five games.
