Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers made a statement on Thanksgiving, knocking off the Detroit Lions with one of their most impressive performances of the season. Love was sensational yet again as he continues to stack elite performances week after week, staking his claim as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

The former first-round pick earned a 91.2 PFF overall grade, the highest among quarterbacks in Week 13. Love is now PFF’s third-highest-graded quarterback on the season after posting two games in the past three weeks with a PFF overall grade above 90.0.

Love’s arm talent, a major reason he was drafted in Round 1, was on full display. He can make every throw from a variety of platforms, and he showed it on Thanksgiving by firing four big-time throws — tying his single-game high for the season.

Each one of these plays demands a different type of throw, and Love continues to show he can make all of them. The first throw requires touch. The Packers are just short of the red zone and, after the motion, Love knows he’ll have man coverage and simply trusts his receiver to win. He drops the ball perfectly into the bucket.

The second and third throws show off his arm strength in two different ways. The first is a strike on the run, and the second travels nearly 55 yards in the air to hit his receiver perfectly in stride. Both require an elite level of arm strength that Love clearly has.

The above throw looks like a relatively “easy” one down the seam, but it’s only easy because of how Jordan Love sets it up. The Lions defense shows a two-high shell pre-snap but rotates into Cover-3 Buzz, with the safety to the passing strength dropping into a hook/curl role and the linebacker buzzing to the flat.

Right at the snap, Love sees the far-side safety gaining depth toward the middle of the field, and once he confirms it’s Cover-3, he knows he wants the seam — but he has to beat that safety. He gives a slight pump fake and a look-off to the single-receiver side, freezing the safety just long enough for him to rip the seam throw without hesitation over the top of the rotating defender.

The Lions play the second-highest rate of man coverage in the NFL, so the Packers had a good sense of what they’d see on fourth-and-3 with a chance to seal the win.

Pre-snap, Love does a good job sliding the protection the right way, but it ultimately doesn’t help because the pressure comes from the opposite side. He’s forced to keep his eyes on Dontayvion Wicks the entire time because of that pressure, and with nowhere to step up, he has to throw a fadeaway while getting his arm hit. Even so, he puts the ball in the only spot his receiver can come down with it to win the game for Green Bay.

While the Packers’ season has had its ups and downs, they remain firmly in the mix for both the division and the No. 1 seed in the NFC, thanks in large part to Jordan Love. He has taken a clear step forward this season and is producing like one of the elite quarterbacks in the league.

For whatever reason, he hasn’t been mentioned in MVP conversations like other quarterbacks with similar records, but he continues to play at that level nearly every week.
