NFL Preseason Week 3 Recap: San Francisco 49ers 30, Los Angeles Chargers 23

The 49ers ended their 2025 preseason with a winning record thanks to a late-game surge, upending the Chargers 30-23.

With the score deadlocked at 16-16 in the fourth quarter, linebacker Curtis Robinson intercepted DJ Uiagalelei and returned the pick 32 yards for the go-ahead score. Then, after San Francisco's defense forced a punt, Carter Bradley connected with Terique Owens for a 22-yard touchdown — which proved to be the difference-maker.

Even in defeat, the Chargers can feel optimistic about several depth pieces. Rookie tight end Oronde Gadsden II hauled in three of his four targets for 46 yards, picking up two first downs. Likewise, veteran receiver Jalen Reagor caught three passes for 33 yards, with one an explosive play. On top of that, rookie cornerback forced an incompletion on his lone target, and undrafted linebacker Marlowe Wax generated two pressures on only five pass-rushing snaps.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

The 49ers may have another standout linebacker in Nickolas Martin. The team's third-round pick forced a fumble and made two total stops in run defense, plus permitted only four receiving yards on 23 coverage snaps. San Francisco will be relying on Martin and other rookies for its defense to return to form.
