NFL Preseason Week 2 Game Recap: New York Giants 31, New York Jets 12

There's no quarterback competition in Giants camp — Russell Wilson has a stranglehold on the starting job. But Jaxson Dart continues to play as if there's little separating him and the veteran Wilson in the pecking order. Perhaps that day will come sooner rather than later.

Dart finished his night with another strong box score: 14-of-16 passing for 137 yards and a touchdown, as well as a rushing score. The eye test matched those numbers. The first-rounder played with the confidence of a veteran and the fearlessness of a rookie. He averaged less than 2.3 seconds to throw, whereas rookies tend to creep more toward 3.

Thanks to Dart's output, the Giants poured it on against their New York counterparts and took a 31-12 win in preseason Week 2.

Jets quarterback Justin Fields was less impressive, finishing 1-of-5 passing across two drives. The coaching staff will be pleased with its top cornerbacks behind Sauce Gardner, though. Michael Carter II, Brandon Stephens, Qwan'tez Stiggers and Jarrick Bernard-Converse all made plays for the Jets in coverage.

PLAYER OF THE GAME

Perhaps an unsung standout, Giants tight end Theo Johnson caught only one pass — albeit a tough 30-yard catch-and-run — but was an extremely effective blocker. He is set to earn strong marks across nine run-blocking snaps and three pass-blocking snaps, showing off his versatility in a relatively fluid tight end room.
