Despite heavy rain in Charlotte, the Atlanta Falcons took to the air against the Carolina Panthers and reminded the NFL that they still have more than enough teeth on offense to do damage.
The firing of Dan Quinn and Thomas Dimitroff — along with the Falcons’ miserable start to the season — has led people to look toward the future, including floating the concept of trading away assets to accelerate a rebuild. But this team still has foundational pieces in place around which a quality team can be built in a hurry, and even without that structure they can make enough plays to put up yards and win games.
Atlanta racked up 411 yards of offense, 26 first downs and averaged an impressive 0.21 EPA per play, compared to Carolina’s figure of -0.021.
