STORY OF THE GAME
Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce will likely finish PFF’s grading review process as two of the highest-graded players in the game. The two connected for eight completions, 136 yards, seven first downs and a touchdown. Mathieu will also be in the running for the game’s highest-graded player with his multiple defensive stops, zero missed tackles and two interceptions against Denver.
Broncos’ Melvin Gordon III and Noah Fant turned in strong performances in the losing effort. Gordon totaled 142 yards from 16 touches, including a 65-yard scamper early in the second quarter. Fant had four receptions for 57 yards and should finish PFF’s grading reviews with an 85.0-plus PFF grade.
Denver had three rookies play 40-plus offensive snaps against Kansas City: Lloyd Cushenberry III, Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler. All three failed to have a significantly positive impact on the game and should finish grading reviews with PFF grades below 65.0. Hamler and Jeudy combined for 17 yards on three receptions.
Defensively, Denver rookie cornerback Michael Ojemudia allowed 70-plus yards and a touchdown in coverage on first review. Chiefs rookie cornerback L’Jarius Sneed logged three defensive stops and allowed just 23 yards in the game.
