Fantasy: IDP - Regular Season Awards

Pro Football Focus recently announced their All-Pro teams, so I decided to announce my own personal IDP MVP awards for the LB, CB, and DL spots. The criteria for these awards were that you obviously had to be within the top scoring at your position, but you also had to be consistent.  If a player blew up for a huge game, like DeAngelo Hall, then was mediocre the rest of the way, they weren’t considered. And if a big chunk of a player’s production came in Week 17 or they disappeared for the playoffs, it went against them as well.  Basically you needed to play at a high level week-in-week-out to make the cut.

So with that, take the jump to see my own personal MVPs at each of the main IDP positions and feel free to comment. If you disagree then please make a compelling argument for your own choice and why they shouldn’t have been snubbed.

Top LB: Jerod Mayo

What more can be said about Jerod Mayo and his unbelievable year.  He led the league with 113 solo tackles and 174 total tackles, while also contributing 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 3 fumble recoveries, and 5 passes defended.  This all resulted in him scoring a 10.5 overall PFF rating while playing 96.4% of the total defensive snaps.

Runner-Up: Stephen Tulloch

Stephen Tulloch was the only player this year who was even close to touching Jerod Mayo.  Tulloch finished the year with 111 solo tackles, 159 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery, and 6 passes defended. He was superior to Mayo with a 13.6 PFF rating and playing on all but 2 snaps, but unfortunately these numbers don’t count towards fantasy production.

Top CB: Donte Whitner

With a whopping 96 solo tackles and 140 total tackles from the cornerback position, Donte Whitner was able to secure top honors among all cornerbacks this season.  He added 1 sack, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 7 passes defended to those stellar numbers.  Not surprisingly, Whitner finished with negative 3.4 PFF rating, which is customary among top fantasy IDPs, while playing 97.8% of the total defensive snaps.

Runner-Up: Terrell Thomas

Where Terrell Thomas fell behind Whitner in tackles, he made up for in almost every other category. Thomas finished with a solid 81 solo tackles, 101 total tackles, 1 sack, 5 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery, and 21 passes defended.  This resulted in him scoring a negative 1.4 PFF rating, while playing 97.8% of the total defensive snaps.

Top DL: Justin Tuck

For a defensive end, Justin Tuck did it all, and was among the leaders in almost every single category at the position.  Tuck finished his stellar season with 48 solo tackles, 76 total tackles, 12 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, and 4 passes defended to score an outstanding 25.4 PFF rating, while playing 83% of the total defensive snaps.

Runner-Up: Jared Allen

One of the lone bright spots for the Minnesota Vikings this season, Jared Allen was able to generate his usual strong production. Allen finished the season with 45 solo tackles, 60 total tackles, 11 sacks, 2 interceptions, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 6 passes defended, and a touchdown.  All of this helped him score a 17.2 PFF rating, while being on the field for an unbelievable 93.7% of the total defensive snaps.
