Fantasy football is all about the matchups, especially when it comes to wide receivers versus cornerbacks. Remember when fantasy matchup analysis used to be “Team A gives up the most fantasy points to wide receivers”? Well, we’ve moved from analog to digital and now look at matchups on an individual level. Each week, I dig through the actually coverage tendencies for all 32 NFL teams and compile this information in the WR/CB Matchup Chart, which is released on Thursday mornings.
Week 8 Matchup Upgrades
A.J. Green vs. Indianapolis – Green is coming off an uneventful performance in Week 7, but he’s poised to bounce back in a big way. Green draws an extremely favorable matchup against the Colts with primary coverage projected to come from Rashaan Melvin. The Indy corner has done a decent job this season, but has been targeted on 20 percent of his routes covered. Expect plenty of volume for Green on Sunday.
Demaryius Thomas vs. Kansas City – Like Green, Thomas is a good bet to rebound after posting a fantasy dud last week. He’ll line up most frequently against Terrance Mitchell, who has allowed a league-leading 597 receiving yards in his coverage. Through the first seven weeks of the season, Mitchell is giving up 0.46 fantasy points per route, which is second among this week’s projected starting corners. Fire up Thomas as a back-end WR1 this week.
