Fantasy football is all about the matchups, especially when it comes to wide receivers versus corner backs. Remember when fantasy matchup analysis used to be “Team A gives up the most fantasy points to wide receivers”? Well, we’ve moved from analog to digital and now look at matchups on an individual level. Each week, I dig through the actually coverage tendencies for all 32 NFL teams and compile this information in the WR/CB Matchup Chart, which is released on Thursday mornings.
Week 16 matchup upgrades
Keenan Allen vs. NY Jets – After posting 100-plus yards in four straight games, Allen came back to earth last week. Look for the Chargers receiver to rebound in Week 16. He draws a favorable matchup against a Jets defense that has allowed four touchdowns to receivers over the last three weeks. Allen will draw primary coverage from Buster Skrine out of the slot. Skrine has allowed five touchdowns in his coverage in 2017. Allen’s healthy workload and plus matchup are ideal for DFS cash game lineups this week.
JuJu Smith-Schuster vs. Houston – With Antonio Brown sidelined, expect to see plenty of Smith-Schuster this weekend. The rookie also gets a plus matchup against the suspect Texans secondary. Smith-Schuster will see primary coverage from Kevin Johnson, who has struggled mightily this season. Johnson is surrendering a catch on 77 percent of his targets with opposing receivers scoring four touchdowns in his coverage.
