Thinking back over the years that I’ve been doing the IDP waiver wire advice column, it’s hard to remember a season when there have been so many strong pickups at the linebacker position, while there haven’t been a plethora of injuries to the top guys making them temporary adds. As a result it feels like we’re running through the same linebackers pickups each week, or I’m deliberately searching for lesser names just to give some variety, when the more obvious grabs go unmentioned. If you are in a league in which the eight or so names I’ve listed are all gone, feel free to reach out to me on Twitter (@RossMilesNFL) and I’ll see what sage words of advice I can offer you!
Defensive linemen
Mike Daniels, Green Bay Packers
Packers’ interior lineman Daniels missed Weeks 3 and 4 with a hip issue, but that’s actually a good thing if you’re targeting him on the waiver wire as it will has supressed his total points scored versus his peers. When on the field Daniels has been productive, recording 10 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 1 forced fumble, and looking at our PFF fantasy data, that helps Daniels rank fourth in points per opportunity in tackle-heavy scoring formats, fifth in balanced scoring, and 10th in big-play scoring leagues. That doesn’t mean you’re looking at a DL1 here, but Daniels does offer a high floor and he can score as a top-end DL3 for the rest of the season.
