Week 1 is the best time to capitalize on the inefficient prices set by DFS site. To be fair, these sites have improved their Week 1 pricing with each passing year, but there are still plenty of value plays to take advantage of in Week 1.
High ownership is to be expected from some of these bargains, and we will touch in that in the writeup, so they should be used in cash games. However, some of these players are also excellent buys for tournaments and won’t have high ownership percentages. Generally speaking, quarterback is the one position where ownership tends to be spread out the most — in other words, feel free using these bargains both in tournaments and cash games. When prices are given for both sites, I consider the player a bargain in both; when only one price is given, it’s site-specific.
(Remember, DraftKings and FanDuel prices will occasionally differ substantially because DK offers a $50,000 budget while FD offers $60,000.)
Quarterbacks
Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams
(FanDuel, $6,660; DraftKings, $4,800)
Goff is a bargain on either site, and this was the case even before top Colts CB Vontae Davis and QB Andrew Luck were ruled out for Week 1. The Colts had a lot of turnover in the secondary this offseason and they still lack a consistent pass rush to threaten a Rams passing game that showed signs of life this preseason after adding elite left tackle Andrew Whitworth in free agency. Goff will have plenty of chances to get out to a hot start in former Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay’s offense because the Colts won’t hold the ball for long with Scott Tolzien at quarterback.
