After looking at the obvious choices for top fantasy rookies, we dig deep at some sleepers that may not currently be on your draft boards. Because of injuries, cuts and other unforeseen events that shake up NFL rosters, these players could play an important role in your fantasy season.

There are many examples of these situations, including Alfred Morris, a sixth-round pick in 2012 who ended up rushing for 1,610 yards his rookie season. Typically, these players have the skill set but might not be in the best situation for immediate impact. But the talent is there and all they need is one break for a breakout year.

Devontae Booker, RB, Denver Broncos

While C.J. Anderson is expected to keep his hold on the starting running back job in Denver, Booker has an excellent chance to see significant playing time early. Drafted in the fourth round, Booker’s best attributes are his cutting and his ability to find the hole, both traits that will serve him well in Denver’s zone-blocking scheme. He’s done well in camp in the receiving game and with pass-blocking, two avenues for any rookie running back to find playing time. And unlike other coaches, it’s not beyond Gary Kubiak to play rookie running backs. Over his 10-year career, Kubiak has given 125, 175 and 268 rush attempts to rookies (Wali Lundy, Ben Tate and Steve Slaton, respectively). Booker does have competition with Ronnie Hillman for carries, but Booker’s previously mentioned pass-catching ability should give him the edge.
