Fantasy football rankings: Keeper rankings for 2019

Making decisions in fantasy football keeper leagues can be tricky if you’re in a league that penalizes you a round in your draft for the player. The rules on these penalties vary by league, but the idea is essentially that you lose a designated round pick if you keep a specific player. This rule stipulation presents a challenge when you go to make your keeper decision. How do you know if the round you’re keeping the player at is good value or not?

To help you out in this process, I put together a set of 2019 fantasy football keeper rankings below. These rankings are grouped by rounds, and the rounds indicate the earliest I’d be willing to keep these players in a 12-team league. Please note that these rounds aren’t suggestions for where you should keep these players, but rather are a general set of guidelines for the earliest round value you should be considering keeping them.

We also dropped our fantasy football keeper value chart in late July,  which uses value over replacement numbers to calculate keeper value and help fantasy football owners make keeper decisions.

For example, if you have Mark Ingram with a fifth-round penalty, that’s two rounds earlier than the seventh-round keeper value we have below. That means you should toss Ingram back into the draft. But if you have Nick Chubb with an eighth-round penalty, you’re getting four rounds of value on him if you keep him.

If your league doesn’t have round penalties, you can also use this list to make your keeper decision. Don’t worry about the round groupings below. Instead, make your keeper decision based on the highest-ranked player. So if you’re deciding between Patrick Mahomes and Kerryon Johnson, you’d go with Johnson. The Lions back is ranked 13 spots higher than Mahomes, so he’s your best bet to keep.
