Pressing fantasy questions for the NFC South

As we do every July during the run-up to NFL training camp, we are taking a spin around the league to ask and answer a pressing fantasy question for each team. Next up is the NFC South, where shootouts are plentiful and they face the NFC North and AFC East this season. Overall, each team has a fairly light schedule of defenses ahead of them.

(Keep up with the whole series here.)

Atlanta Falcons

Are any secondary Falcons pass-catchers worth targeting?

The Falcons led the league with 540 points last season, the seventh-most in NFL history. Matt Ryan had the highest ever yards-per-attempt average (9.3) over a 16-game season. His 136.1 passer rating on deep balls is the best mark recorded during the PFF era (since 2006). Ryan spread it around, with eight players seeing at least 30 targets. It helped offensive efficiency – their 0.54 points per snap crushed everyone – but left a scattered cast of fantasy contributors. Only Ryan (QB2), Devonta Freeman (RB6), Tevin Coleman (RB20), and Julio Jones (WR6) had fantasy finishes that would even qualify as flex-worthy.
