NFL Week 14: Fantasy IDP utilization report

  • Rookie breakout games: Aidan Hutchinson and Travon Walker both posted their best pass-rush grades of the season this past week. With Walker leaving hurt, can fantasy managers expect big things to continue for Hutchinson into the fantasy playoffs?
  • Musical chairs in Cleveland: The Cleveland Browns linebacker corps continues to be one of the biggest headaches in IDP but as injuries pile up, things could start to simplify. Maybe.
  • Barton is back in play: As Cody Barton’s snaps have slowly increased over the past few weeks, he looks to be another trustworthy IDP linebacker in time for the fantasy playoffs.
Estimated reading time: 35 minutes

WEEK 14 TAKEAWAYS

Make sure to check out last week’s waiver targets. Some of the key players stood out as potential adds after Week 14 for leagues of all sizes:

Waiver Wire
  • LB – Deion Jones, CLV – The Browns linebacker carousel continued this week, as more injuries pile up and the spinning wheel of who to trust for fantasy purposes landed on Jones in Week 14. With Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah likely to miss time, the assumption is that Jones’ playing time should stabilize for at least another game or two.
  • LB – Devin Lloyd, JAX – Lloyd returned to an every-down role with Chad Muma out of the lineup. As long as that is the case, Lloyd can be trusted in almost all IDP formats.
  • LB – Luke Masterson, LV – The Raiders only deployed one full-time linebacker, forcing Masterson to play more of a part-time role, which makes him useful in deep IDP leagues only.
  • LB – Tae Crowder, NYG – Also for deep leagues, Crowder could be considered if Micah McFadden’s injury causes him to miss time. This is not anywhere near a full-time role, so production expectations should be low.
  • LB – Monty Rice, TEN – Dylan Cole made the list last week and led the team’s linebackers in defensive snaps this week, but Rice led the team in tackles. While he did not earn an every-down role this week, Rice was much better than Cole on the field and could potentially overtake him next week.
  • EDGE – Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, HST – Okoronkwo has been getting more opportunities recently, and it’s led to two sacks in two weeks. He should be considered a solid depth option for the fantasy playoffs.
  • EDGE – Kyle Van Noy, LAC – Van Noy qualifies as another solid depth option at the edge position, at least until Joey Bosa returns. Van Noy is averaging 89% of Los Angeles' defensive snaps over the last three weeks.
  • EDGE – Bruce Irvin, SEA – Irvin has been given plenty of opportunities in Seattle and rewarded his team’s trust with a sack. Irvin qualifies as another depth piece for the fantasy playoffs.
  • DI – Arik Armstead, SF – Armstead returned to his typical snap share in his second game back from injury. He's another depth option at the defensive line position for fantasy managers.
  • S – Marcus Williams, BLT – Williams returned to the lineup for the first time since Week 5 and continued his productive ways in an every-down role with an interception.
  • S – Myles Hartsfield, CAR – Hartsfield is filling in for Xavier Woods while he misses time with an injury.
  • S – Alohi Gilman, LAC – If the No. 1 safety, Derwin James, misses any more time, Gilman could be an option in deeper leagues.

  • WAIVER-WIRE: Marcus Williams returned to the lineup from injured reserve. He hasn’t played since Week 5 but got back in IDP managers' good graces by landing an interception in his return.
  • DROPPABLE: Geno Stone reverted back to being as irrelevant as he was early in the season when Williams was healthy.
  • ROOKIE WATCH: Kyle Hamilton worked as the team’s nickel corner, which he did a fair bit last week as well, but there could be some trustworthy usage to rely on for IDP if this continues for another week.
