Week 4 NFL injuries that matter for fantasy

Staying on top of injuries throughout the week, and especially on Sunday mornings, is one of the easiest ways to maintain an edge in fantasy football. Outside of, you know, just making sure you don’t have inactive players in your starting lineup, it’s important to understand how one injury can greatly impact the fantasy potential of other skill position players within a game.

Lucky for you, this weekly series is here to help. Rather than just frantically refreshing each team’s injury report, I’ll do the heavy lifting each Saturday night and update injuries and provide analysis once inactives are released and early game-time decisions finalized on Sunday mornings.

Updates/Analysis

Kenny Golladay, WR, Detroit Lions – Inactive – Golladay is out for Week 4. The main significance is that this may push Golden Tate back outside in 3WR sets. Tate would be better off staying in the slot and away from Xavier Rhodes this week, but I really have no idea what Detroit plans to do.

Rex Burkhead, RB, New England Patriots – Inactive – Burkhead is out for Week 4, potentially boosting James White’s value this week.

John Brown, WR, Arizona Cardinals — Active (limited) – Brown is active, but reportedly, will be limited on a snap count. This likely keeps Brown on your bench and out of your starting lineup. J.J. Nelson and Jaron Brown take a hit as well.

Braxton Miller, WR, Houston Texans – Inactive – With Miller a healthy scratch, Will Fuller gets a bump in his first game back. Bruce Ellington will also be on the field in 3WR sets.

Will Tye, TE, New York Jets – Inactive – With Jordan Leggett and Tye out, Austin Seferian-Jenkins is set up nicely for a big day after leading the team in targets last week.

Matt Forte, RB, New York Jets – Inactive – As expected, Forte is out for Week 4. Bilal Powell ranked second among running backs in PPR fantasy points over the final four weeks of last season, when Forte was dealing with an injury. Powell is not a lock for full-time duties this week, however, as new Jets OC John Morton had expressed a preference for a RBBC approach earlier in the year.

Curtis Samuel, WR, Carolina Panthers – Inactive – Samuel saw five targets last week, but is out for Week 4 dealing with a back injury. McCaffrey, who operates in a similar part of the field, should be in line for more targets.

Eli Rogers, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers – Inactive – Rogers being inactive (healthy scratch) likely doesn’t make much of an impact on anyone’s fantasy lineup, but it should bump up Juju Smith-Schuster’s fantasy stock a bit.
