Mining free agency for fantasy value

Tuesday, teams had to cut down to 75 players. While the upcoming cut to 53 will leave plenty of interesting names as free agents, the cut to 75 did leave a few players who could become fantasy relevant if they find the right home. Here are four players who were either recently cut or are likely to be cut in the near future, and what their fantasy outlook is like once they find a new home, should that happen.

1. Karlos Williams, RB

Williams was released by the Bills more than a week ago after coming into camp overweight as well as getting a four-game suspension for substance abuse. It’s somewhat surprising Williams wasn’t picked up quickly, possibly signifying there might be more to the story. Assuming he can return to an acceptable weight and find a new team, though, Williams can be a very effective player. He finished last year with 2.9 yards after contact per carry, which was firmly inside the top 10 at the position. While he wasn’t often utilized in the passing game, when he was he didn’t drop a pass. In the majority of games where he didn’t produce a lot of yards, part of the problem is he didn’t receive enough carries.
