The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Los Angeles Rams 31-10 on Monday Night Football. The 49ers started the game with two 90-plus-yard drives that ended in touchdowns while the Rams started their first two drives with interceptions. The Rams retaliated with one touchdown but couldn’t get any offense going in the third quarter, and by the fourth quarter, it was too little too late.

Table Notes
  • Snaps include plays called back due to penalties like offensive holding or defensive pass interference. The other three stats have these plays removed.
  • Targets may differ from official NFL sources. The most likely discrepancy would be from a clear thrown away pass, where the NFL may give the target to the nearest receiver, while this data will not.
  • Carries are only on designed plays. Quarterback scrambles won’t count for the total number of carries in the game.

Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers

  • Deebo Samuel: 5 receptions, 97 yards, 1 TD (5.1 YPRR), 5 carries, 36 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD
  • George Kittle: 5 receptions, 50 yards, 1 TD (37.5% threat rate)

Add Jeff Wilson Jr.: Elijah Mitchell appeared to have a tight hold on the 49ers' first- and second-down role, but that changed Sunday, as San Francisco rotated between the rookie and Wilson every few plays. Mitchell still had notably more carries, especially in the fourth quarter, but their playing time was closer than Mitchell's fantasy managers would like. Pick up Wilson to see how the backfield evolves. Mitchell’s fantasy value takes a hit after this game, and he's no longer an every-week must-start.

San Francisco was without JaMycal Hasty Sunday night. Hasty typically plays the third-down role, but fullback Kyle Juszczyk took those snaps tonight.

Odell Beckham’s slow start: The Rams lost Robert Woods for the season and gained Beckham in the last week. Beckham started the game and caught a pass on the first play, but another target on that drive led to an interception. Beckham only saw one more target the rest of the game, as rookie Ben Skowronek played the rest of the snaps. Beckham was used less as the game progressed.

The Rams have a bye week next week, which should give Beckham plenty of time to get more adjusted to his new teammates and playbook. There were reports that Los Angeles could start using more four-receiver sets prior to the Woods injury, but that didn’t end up happening tonight.

Buy low on Darrell Henderson: Henderson wasn’t used very much in the game, as he finished with 31 rushing yards on five carries and 10 receiving yards on four catches. He didn't play as much as usual, as he missed part of the second quarter while in the concussion protocol. The game script wasn’t in the Rams' favor throughout the game, which didn’t help. He plays more than most running backs.

George Kittle has returned: This was Kittle's second game back from injury, and it was his second straight game with a touchdown. The 49ers weren’t doing a lot of passing, but he was Garoppolo's favorite target.  Part of his high target share could partially be due to slot wide receiver Mohamed Sanu landing on injured reserve. Jauan Jennings took over as the wide receiver in three-receiver sets, but he only caught one pass.

At a time where so many tight ends are struggling, Kittle looks like one of the top options for the rest of the season.
