Well, that was a rocky Week 14 as far as fantasy football goes, with numerous star players under-performing (I’m looking at you Drew Brees!), which caused many an upset in the fantasy playoffs. If you suffered one of those heart-wrenching defeats, I feel for you today, I honestly do.
Meanwhile, I woke up this beautiful Tuesday morning to a double-whammy of Jeff Fisher’s firing (woohoo, my Rams are freeeeeee) and my 6-6, sixth-seed franchise in my biggest league causing a huge upset in the semifinal against the No. 1 seed thanks to a 28-point haul from one of my all-time favorite IDPers, Eric Weddle. Go Utes! Anyway, enough about my fantasy team, let’s focus on what you can do to improve yours if you’re still on the dance floor and competing for a title in your IDP league.
Defensive linemen
Cameron Wake, Miami Dolphins
At 34 years old, the former CFL standout Wake has been one of the league’s premier pass-rushers for several seasons, but the last few years have seen both injuries and age take their toll. This season was the turning point for many of his fantasy owners, and he can be found on many a waiver wire, as owners turned to bigger upside candidates. Well Wake doesn’t seem to subscribe to that train of thought, having recorded 8.5 sacks in the last eight games, only one of which he didn’t earn at least half a sack. His tackle totals remain atrocious, as he’s only had 3 or more total tackles in 3-of-14 games, but Wake has never excelled in that area. As a cherry on top for those of you checking out Wake, he gets the Jets this week, a top-five matchup for D-Lineman. He’s a boom-or-bust scorer, but if you need a waiver wire DE this late in the season, you can’t really complain if Wake is who you end up starting.
