Let’s start with a simple one: Which teams start their drives closest to the end zone?

Where each team’s average drive started in 2017

For this study, we went through every play of the 2017 season and calculated each team’s starting distance from the end zone on every drive. The below chart shows you the averages for each team:

The Ravens had the best starting field position in the NFL last year, with their average drive starting 67.6 yards away from the end zone (about the opponent’s 32- or 33-yard line).
