DFS guide: Week 14 in DraftKings cash games

Last week reminded us of a very important lesson when playing cash games: We need to constantly be on our toes when it comes to breaking news ready to pivot — not tinker — with our lineups when better plays become available. News on Sunday morning broke that Ameer Abdullah would be inactive, making Theo Riddick a must-play in cash games at just $3,400. We also learned that Damien Williams went the full week without participating in practice, leaving the two-headed backfield up to solely Kenyan Drake on Sunday. Riddick went for 17.2 fantasy points on DraftKings and Drake finished with 21.6. Paying attention to the news on Sunday (and throughout the week) is imperative if we want to build a steady bankroll. Let’s get started with Week 14 and go position-by-position on this week’s strongest cash game plays on DraftKings.

Quarterbacks

Like last week, there are plenty of cheap quarterback options in play, providing tons of salary relief and letting you pay up elsewhere.

Josh McCown was the name that immediately stuck out to me last week as my value “must-play” in cash (finished with 34.14), and this week’s version is Blaine Gabbert ($4,800). Gabbert’s matchup here has him playing at home against the Titans as 3-point dogs that will likely be forced to throw. Tennessee just allowed over 20 fantasy points to Tom Savage last week. We shouldn’t have much worry about Gabbert hitting 3x cash game value. In his three starts since taking over, Gabbert has thrown for six passing touchdowns, averaging 17.7 DK points per outing. He also has his best receiver — Larry Fitzgerald — in a plus matchup here in the slot with Logan Ryan suffering a concussion and questionable for this one. No defense has allowed more pass completions than the Titans this season, with Tennessee also ranking top-10 in most passing yards and passing touchdowns allowed. We’ve been paying down at quarterback all season and there’s no reason to buck the trend now.

It finally happened. Last year I was able to hold out until Week 17, but I’m caving early this season. We can finally use Blake Bortles ($5,000) in cash this week. This Seattle secondary has been devastated with injuries, with Earl Thomas the lone member of the Legion of Boom left standing. Without much resistance, Carson Wentz threw for 300-plus yards against them last week and I wouldn’t be shocked to see Bortles do the same given Seattle’s pass-funnel defense. Bortles has the weapons in Marqise Lee and Dede Westbrook who are both in plus matchups per our WR-CB Matchup Chart. Bortles himself has been a consistent cash option, hitting cash value (3x) in seven of his last eight games.
