Offensive Player of the Week: T Peter Skoronski, Northwestern Wildcats

Northwestern’s Peter Skoronski entered the 2022 season as PFF’s No. 1 college football tackle and the highest-ranked offensive lineman on the PFF Preseason Draft Board. It’s safe to say he lived up to the hype in Game 1 of his true junior season.

  • Earned 85.0-plus grades as both a pass- and run-blocker against Nebraska in Ireland, something he hadn’t done in a game in his career before Week 0.
  • Didn’t lose a single one of his 39 pass-blocking snaps.
  • Racked up three big-time run blocks for the game. He had four in all of 2021.

Defensive Player of the Week: S Jartavius Martin, Illinois Fighting Illini

Illinois defensive back Jartavius Martin is one of the most experienced and versatile players on the team's roster. With over 1,700 career snaps to his name, he’s undergone several position switches in his career, but he dazzled against Wyoming in the slot.

  • Saw three slot targets and broke up every single one.
  • Earned an 89.0 coverage grade for the game, the highest single-game mark of his career.
  • Didn’t miss a single tackle on seven attempts while recording two defensive stops.

True Freshman of the Week: WR Jayden McGowan, Vanderbilt Commodores

Despite being a true freshman, Jayden McGowan was listed as Vandy’s breakout candidate in the 2022 PFF College Football Preview Magazine. The 5-foot-8, 177-pounder is a dynamic weapon who can create magic on schemed touches.

  • Broke three tackles and tallied two explosive runs of 10-plus yards on three carries.
  • Averaged 6.8 yards after the catch on five receptions.
  • Generated 2.64 yards per route run for the game.
