2024 Recap
After six consecutive losing seasons, Maryland enjoyed a strong three-year stretch under head coach Mike Locksley, posting winning records and securing bowl victories from 2021 to 2023. However, the Terrapins came crashing back to Earth in 2024, finishing with a record of just 4-8. Both sides of the ball struggled, with Maryland ranking outside the top 90 in PFF grade for both offense and defense.
The outlook for 2025 isn’t much brighter. According to PFF’s Wins Above Average metric, the Terrapins return only three of their 15 most valuable players from last season. Still, there’s at least some reason for long-term optimism, as four-star quarterback Malik Washington joins the program and could start as a true freshman.
Biggest Strength: A young quarterback with a lot of potential
The crown jewel of Maryland’s 2025 recruiting class is quarterback Malik Washington. Ranked as the No. 11 signal-caller in the cycle, he’s the highest-rated recruit the Terrapins have landed in four years. Washington impressed during the spring game, completing 12 of his 18 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns. He has a real chance to start Week 1 as a true freshman.
Biggest Weakness: Can they support him properly?
