Redskins: Amerson struggling as a sophomore

PFF-headlinesThe Redskins secondary remains a liability, but while rookie cornerback Bashaud Breeland has started to make an impact, sophomore David Amerson has not.

Amerson, like most of this defense, had a good game in Week 2 against Jacksonville (6 of 10 passes completed for just 45 yards and his only pass defensed on the year), but otherwise he’s had a rough go of it. He has four ‘red’ coverage grades in the nine games played has left him with a -4.6 coverage grade on the season.  He has allowed an average NFL QB Rating of 104.6 and a 72.2% completion rate both rank near the bottom among his peers.

He did hold up well in Arizona – all three targets were completed for just 12 yards – but that was on just 15 snaps before he suffered his second concussion as a pro. The last two games saw him allow 61 yards and a score in each, with last week’s being a blown coverage on TE Chase Ford. In that same game he also blew a coverage that should have been a 60+ yard TD pass to Cordarrelle Patterson (overthrown). Can he put together a better resume in the final seven contests?
