Another eventful week brings another top-ten player rankings in the AAF. We have only one newcomer on the list this week, edge Alex Barrett of the San Diego Fleet. Last week’s 10th-ranked player, DI Julius Warmsley, fell off the ranks, while the Fleet and the Apollos are tied with three players on the list. Here is the AAF Player of the Year ranking through Week 5.

[Editor's note: These rankings are compiled using multiple factors and do not rely on grades alone. These factors include playing time and positional value etc.]

Shakir Soto tallied three total pressures on 18 pass-rush snaps in the win over the Stallions. With four sacks on the season, Soto is tied for first out of 33 qualifying interior defenders and also has the best pass-rush grade (79.8) at the position. He will face the Iron’s offensive line next week, which boasts the third-best pass-blocking grade (70.9) in the AAF.

Alex Barrett makes his first appearance on the list, coming off a game in which he had three total pressures (two hurries, one hit) and two run stops in a winning effort over the Stallions. Barrett now has two straight games with overall grades above 84.0, and he currently has the best run-defense grade (87.2) out of 30 qualifying edge defenders.
