LeSean McCoy over Eddie Lacy for fantasy in 2016

Now just two weeks outside of the NFL season, we know things that we didn’t know before. We know that Mark Sanchez appears to be losing his grip on the starting job in Denver. We know that Dion Lewis is having a second knee surgery and is going to start the season on the PUP list. We also know that Le’Veon Bell’s suspension was cut down to three games, leaving fantasy owners with a tough decision in the second round of their drafts.

Another thing we’ve recently learned is that Karlos Williams was cut by the Bills, further cementing LeSean McCoy as the all-purpose running back in Buffalo. Do you put your trust in the veteran? Or do you take the former first-round pick Eddie Lacy, who some are expecting to have a bounce-back season?

Those two are the subject of my latest head-to-head draft battle. Let’s try and make your decision a tad easier when you’re looking for your RB1 in the late-second/early-third round. Let's see why I'm advocating LeSean McCoy over Eddie Lacy.

Volume

As we discussed in the last running back head-to-head between Carlos Hyde and C.J. Anderson, volume means everything to today’s running backs. We know that both of these guys will be a big part of their offenses, but one of them has been trending down for a few years.

Lacy was a disappointment to many fantasy owners last year, but not for the reasons they would like to think. Was he overweight? Sure, but that wasn’t the reason for his struggles, as his 4.1 yards per carry was right in line with his 2013 total, when he finished as the No. 6 running back in all of fantasy football. The issue was his lack of volume in the Packers offense.
