Go with Sammy Watkins over Demaryius Thomas in fantasy drafts

After dissecting Carlos Hyde and C.J. Anderson last week, the Twitterverse has spoken – you want more wide receivers discussed in the head-to-head fantasy football articles.

As I have done the last two weeks, asking my Twitter followers who they would like discussed in this head-to-head, and it’s actually the one that I wanted to do. Demaryius Thomas is a polarizing name among the fantasy community, with those backing him due to his No. 13 finish under the combination of Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler, saying it can’t get any worse.

Then on the other end of this debate stands Sammy Watkins, who had somewhat of a mixed bag in 2015, with some massive performances and some that lost fantasy owners their weeks.

As always, I’m shooting for an objective look that will result in a single decisive winner. Let’s take a look forward on what to expect out of these two, and why I’m leaning Watkins for this season.

Quarterback strength

It’s odd for this to be an actual question, because just two short years ago, Thomas had Peyton Manning lobbing him passes on his way to three top-five finishes among fantasy wide receivers. But those days are gone, and Thomas now has one of the worst situations in football.

It appears that Mark Sanchez is the one in line for the starting job, although that could easily change as the season goes on. This is troubling because a quarterback needs to build chemistry with his wide receivers, and Sanchez is new to the team — of course, so are Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch.
