Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 8

It’s Tuesday again, and this is the place where you’ll find out about under-owned players and the week’s hottest pickups. If you’re juggling defenses based on the matchups, I have a few ideas for you. We’ll even look ahead to predict the popular additions for future weeks before you have to spend a waiver pick on them. Within each section the players are listed in the order that I’d pick them up.

Austin is off this week. You may know me from my weekly article, Trench Warfare: RB Matchups and Rankings where I use PFF's Offensive line grades, trends, and matchups to predict the best and worst plays at RB for the week. I hope I can bring you the best advice on what free agents to pursue and how much of your budget — or whatever is left of it — to spend on each guy. With four more bye weeks left in the NFL schedule, there are still many players on the waiver wire who are under-owned and can help fill your byes at WR3, RB2 and the flex.

Notes: Scoring is standard non-PPR. Ownership percentages are based on Yahoo leagues as of Tuesday morning at 1:00 AM Eastern Time. FAAB values are listed as a percentage of your season budget and are based on a standard, 12-team league with 15 roster spots. Use my values as a starting point, and adjust them to fit your league size and the tendencies of your competitors. If a player does not have a FAAB value, it means that I’m recommending that you pick him up as a free agent after waivers clear.

Under-Owned

These players are already on most fantasy radars, but they need to be owned in significantly more leagues. Either due to impressive performances or increased opportunities, the values of these players are on the rise. If your league is small, has shallow benches, or is filled with deadbeat managers, you might be lucky enough to stumble across one of these players on your waiver wire.

Andre Roberts (ARI – WR): 55% Owned, 15% of FAAB

Roberts quelled concerns that his production would drop off after the Cardinals turned things back over to John Skelton. While Roberts' connection with Kolb was clear, especially around the end zone, on Sunday he proved that he could get it done with Skelton as well. Roberts compiled 103 yards on seven receptions and was targeted a team-high nine times.

While Roberts will be inconsistent and less likely to post big  numbers on weeks where the Cardinals are ahead and have to throw less, he has established himself a a clear No. 2 target on Arizona and red zone threat with five touchdowns on the year. He is second in targets only to Larry Fitzergald, and on the weeks where defensive coordinators game plan to stop Fitz at all costs, Roberts will rack up the targets. Roberts is a solid WR4 and bye week fill-in.
