- Mike Jones of the Washington Post has reported that the Washington Redskins have released veteran safety Will Blackmon. Blackmon spent the past two seasons with the team, serving as nickel cornerback in 2015 before converting to free safety for 2016.
- The 12th-year veteran earned a career-high PFF overall grade of 79.7 in the 2016 season, a mark that ranked first among Redskins safeties, and 32nd of 90 qualifying players at the position.
- He performed especially well in coverage last year, allowing just 0.49 yards per coverage snap, ranking 39th of 70 safeties with at least 300 coverage snaps. His PFF coverage grade of 81.5 was the second-highest among Washington’s defensive backs.
