  • The New England Patriots have placed tight end Martellus Bennett on injured reserve, per Jim McBride of the Boston Globe. Bennett, who was claimed off waivers following his release from the Green Bay Packers, played just two games with Patriots.
  • In a disappointing stint with the Packers, Bennett caught 24-of-27 catchable targets for just 233 receiving yards and no touchdowns and through his nine weeks with the team, he averaged just 1.07 yards per route run, which ranked 37th of 42 tight ends with at least 16 targets in that span.
  • After being released by the Packers for failing to disclose a shouler injury, Bennett managed just 24 snaps in two games with the Patriots, but fared much better, catching all six catchable targets for 53 receiving yards, at an average of 2.94 yards per route run, third best among tight ends with at least five targets from Week 10 – Week 11. He’ll end his season with a PFF overall grade of 46.0, the lowest mark of his 10-year career, which currently ranks 53rd of 69 players at the position.
  • Going forward, the Patriots will now rely on Dwayne Allen to back up Rob Gronkowski at the tight end position. Allen, who got off to an extremely slow start this season, has shown signs of life over the last few weeks, and has averaged 1.19 yards per route run since Week 10, good for 26th among 41 tight ends since in that span.
