Every week I look around PFF Main content and features to see what fantasy insight we can take away to help owners going forward. This week we're focusing more on wide receivers, providing one rookie you need to buy low on, along with one team you should avoid altogether.
How Hilton fits in the Colts offense
Andrew Luck is throwing an average of 43.4 passes per game in 2014, and T.Y. Hilton continues to be the main beneficiary of the Colts high-volume passing game. Hilton is already approaching the 1,000-yard mark with 53 receptions for 866 yards through the first half of the season.
Nathan Jahnke discussed Hilton this week in his 32 Observations from Week 8. According to Jahnke, Hilton has 21 catches for 493 yards and two touchdowns on plays where Luck held onto the ball for at least three seconds. That number leads all wide receivers, and it’s not even close as second place has 318 yards on these plays.
In Rick Drummond’s Colts-Steelers ReFo, he writes that six of Hilton’s eight targets last week came 10-plus yards downfield. It helped that the Colts were trailing by a wide margin early, leaving Luck to push the ball downfield often.
With the way the Colts are operating on offense and the volume Hilton is seeing every week (nearly 10 targets per game), he’s locked in as a top 10 wide receiver right now. He’s the fourth-most expensive wide receiver on DraftKings for Week 9. The Giants rank No. 7 in fewest points allowed to Hilton’s position, but his average amount of targets and his 14.1 average depth of target (aDOT) ensures a solid floor every game.
