Week 5 is in the books, and several of the NFL’s first-round rookies made their impact felt. We're once again breaking down their PFF grades, performances and principal opponents as they progress through their debut seasons.
Pick No. 1: Tennessee Titans: QB Cam Ward
- Overall Rookie Grade: 56.7 (Rank: 1/2)
- Principal Opponent: N/A
- Week 5 Snaps: 67
- Week 5 Grade: 68.0
Aided by a handful of Arizona’s mishaps, Ward led the Titans to a miraculous comeback to earn his first NFL victory. In the fourth quarter alone, Ward earned an elite 92.1 PFF passing grade while recording three big-time throws, two of which were gorgeous deep passes to Calvin Ridley.
Ward’s pass protection was also significantly better this week, as he was pressured on only 19% of his dropbacks. Tennessee finally got to see what Ward can do if he is protected.
Pick No. 2: Jacksonville Jaguars: WR/CB Travis Hunter
- Overall Rookie Grade (Offense): 60.9 (Rank: 6/10)
- Principal Opponent (Offense): Chamarri Conner
- Week 5 Offense Snaps: 39
- Week 5 Offense Grade: 76.9
- Overall Rookie Grade (Defense): 74.2 (Rank: 2/12)
- Principal Opponent (Defense): Xavier Worthy
- Week 5 Defense Snaps: 25
- Week 5 Defense Grade: 77.3
Hunter orchestrated the best game of his young career, performing admirably on both sides of the ball. He made an acrobatic, highlight-reel grab for a 44-yard gain in the third quarter and broke up a key third-down slant to Travis Kelce in the first quarter.
Hunter appears to be coming into his own on both sides of the ball, but particularly in coverage, where his 74.2 PFF overall grade ranks tied for 16th among all cornerbacks.
