It’s do or die time right now for teams on the cusp of the fantasy playoffs, with just a handful of regular season weeks left depending on your league set-up. With that being said it’s a time to be bold and swing for the fences, especially as by this stage of the season the waiver wire gems would have been scooped up long ago. Instead there is a greater merit in looking for matchup plays and friendly schedules for the remainder of the year…
Defensive Lineman
The Bills remain the best matchup for defensive ends, allowing on average 23.5 points per game to opposing ends. Over the next month they have the following schedule; @ Dolphins, vs Jets, vs Browns and @ Broncos. You’d expect the likes of Cameron Wake, Sheldon Richardson, Muhammed Wilkerson and DeMarcus Ware all to be owned in all formats, so instead focus your attention on Olivier Vernon, who is coming off the back of a poorer game (2.5 points) and may have been canned by impatient owners.
Vernon has scored as a low-end DE1 over the last five weeks and is showing up well in the PFF statistics, grading out at +14.6 and having generated eight hits and 19 hurries in addition to his 4.5 sacks and six tackles for loss. He’s an underrated player who may be riding the wire in shallower leagues and should certainly be owned. If you need any further example of how great a matchup the Bills are, last week Alan Bailey (who was a recommended deep play in this column) scored a season high 16 points.
