In this weekly column I’ll highlight some top IDP options that aren’t always “must-start” players. I’ll also hit on some of the players most likely to disappoint this week.
Here’s complete season and weekly projections that can be customized to your league’s scoring for all those tough start/sit calls. For specific questions you can always ask me via twitter @NateNFL.
Defensive Line
Start
Calais Campbell DL1 vs CHI
Campbell began the year by posting a zero in week 1. Nothing, nada, zilch, the big goose egg. In week 2 he racked up 10 tackles including a sack. Week three split the difference with four solo tackles. Hopefully, you didn't take him out of you lineup after the week 1 anomaly and don't you dare consider it this week just because he's playing Peyton Manning who gets the ball out faster than a hiccup.
Campbell has always been a solid IDP start due to his tackle numbers. He's posted at least 45 solos in each of the last four years. Even if he doesn't sack Manning this week, and he might, you've got to keep him in your lineup.
Michael Johnson DL2 vs NO
I had Johnson in this exact spot last week then began to cringe as the injury reports were not looking good heading into the weekend. Of course he did play, and if you took my advice you netted 5 total tackles including 2 sacks and a forced fumble. I'll take that in any scoring system any day. So we're doing this dance again in week five. If he's active I'd start him but you do need to monitor the injury report each day as he didn't practice Wednesday.
