Since Jamaal Charles went down for the season in Week 6 no player has dominated opportunity more than Charcandrick West. In Weeks 7 and 8 we saw him play well against an average defense in Pittsburgh and then a below-average defense in Detroit, but last week was the real eye-opener when West took it to arguably the best defense in the league — the Denver Broncos.
You may recall a couple of weeks ago I touted the Broncos for how well they were stifling opponent's opportunity so West's Week 10 performance is nothing to sneeze at. Of course, it was helped a bit by Peyton Manning‘s insanely terrible outing — the Chiefs averaged 34 yards per drive when they scored points. Even that number was inflated by an 80-yard TD by West.
Since taking over in Week 7, West has the highest FLEX Opportunity Index at 139.2 percent, which is 9.2 percentage points higher than Devonta Freeman. He's also tied with Darren McFadden for the fourth-highest goal line team share at 67 percent — behind Jeremy Langford (78 percent), Marshawn Lynch (75 percent), and Danny Woodhead (71 percent).
If you haven't believed in West's hype to this point, it's time you jumped on board the Charc-nado train.
Opportunity Index (OI) is a metric that measures the quality of a player’s opportunity (QB completions plus rushes, RB/WR/TE pass targets plus rushes) versus the quantity of opportunity. Each opportunity is weighted by likelihood to score fantasy points and then adjusted to the position average to get one, clean number where 0 percent is league average and anything greater is above league average and vice versa.
The “+/-” category shows the movement in OI from the prior week and “FPTS-xFPTS” calculates how much above or below the expected level a player has scored fantasy points this season. As a reminder, all calculations are based off a half-point per reception scoring system.
