Advanced Touches is the second in our weekly Advanced Series and takes aim at the running back position. These stats gleaned from the excellent work of PFF game charters will give you the insight to adroitly navigate start/sit decisions, waiver wire acquisitions, and trade proposals.
For example, if you look at the conventional stats, it's readily apparent that both Arian Foster and Ben Tate had big fantasy days. Looking a little deeper though, it jumps out that Tate had a better Elusive Rating and Breakaway Percentage. He averaged more yards after contact and more yards before contact. Knowing that, you've got the jump on your leaguemates in realizing just how close Tate is to forcing an even committee.
Our Week 1 article features an expanded glossary. As a quick refresher, remember that Elusive Rating is a combination of forced missed tackles and yards after contact, while Breakaway Percentage gives you a measure of 15+ yard runs. YCo is yards before contact. VYA is my contrarian measure of Vision Yards per attempt.
