Advanced Drop Backs is the third in our weekly Advanced Series that begins with Advanced Targets on Wednesday and Advanced Touches on Thursday. If you use a QBBC strategy, play in a 2-QB league, or compete in weekly fantasy games – where you must extract maximum value for every salary cap dollar – you’ll find valuable info here.
One of the best things about PFF’s exclusive stats is they often refute conventional wisdom parroted by mainstream analysts.
Here are some surprising things we found going through the Signature Stats on QB play:
1. Matt Cassel, under new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, has attempted the second-most deep passes (13) through two games, trailing only Jay Cutler’s 15. A deep pass is defined as a target of 20-plus yards. In addition, Cassel has completed the second-most deep passes (6), behind only Cam Newton’s 7. (Not counting Thursday night’s Giants-Panthers). Taking it further, Cassel is going deep 17.3 percent of the time, trailing only Cutler (24.2 percent) and Newton (22.6 percent). You could argue the Chiefs have trailed big in both games, but it’s a trend worth monitoring if you’re looking for under-the-radar QB value.
