Before we start focusing on Week 11, how about we update our Most Valuable Player award? Sounds like the right thing to do.
PFF Founder Neil Hornsby couldn’t hack the pressure of making a vote this week so it was left to Sam Monson, Ben Stockwell and I to rank the most valuable players in the league.
Needless to say, there was a Green Bay Packer at the top, but maybe you’ll at least be interested in (if not amazed by) some of the players who made it into our Top 10.
Or maybe not. In any case here’s here are our frontrunners in the race for the league's MVP.
1. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers
Fun fact for the week; Aaron Rodgers is awesome. Seriously we’re running out of different ways to tell you how good he is. You know this and if you don’t, you just don’t get football.
2. Drew Brees, QB, New Orleans Saints
Here’s a question, do you think Mike Smith goes for it on fourth down if Drew Brees isn’t on the opposing sideline? Brees is playing lights-out at the moment, only nobody seems to notice it.
3. Darrelle Revis, CB, New York Jets
After a couple of poor weeks by his standards, Revis is now allowing a quarterback rating of 19.1 when QBs throw in his direction. That means you’re statistically better to just throw the ball away then than throw at Revis.
4. Justin Smith, DE, San Francisco 49ers
Hard picking one 49er, but given his heroics on the last drive of the game against the Giants, Smith puts Patrick Willis in the shadow. For one week at least.
5. Calvin Johnson, WR, Detroit Lions
Had a bad day against the Bears but is the main reason the Lions aren’t out of the playoff race already.
6. Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots
Stats aren’t as good as last year, but may actually be doing more to help his team due to a line not playing well and a heavier burden on his shoulders
7. Matt Forte, RB, Chicago Bears
Showing the world how to handle yourself in a contract year. Forte is the kind of back everyone wants on their team.
8. Fred Jackson, RB, Buffalo Bills
The hot start to the season is cooling somewhat for the Bill, and his team is feeling the effects.
9. Jared Allen, DE, Minnesota Vikings
Getting pressure is important but kudos to Allen for being able to turn pressures into sacks. Not a player like him in the league at the moment.
10. Johnathan Joseph, CB, Houston Texans
Such a big turnaround for the Texans' defense and this guy may be one of the biggest reasons why. Seems to be getting better and better as the season goes on.
