From the first play, the Eagles just put a pounding on the Redskins.
Washington safety LaRon Landry reportedly made a joke about DeSean Jackson‘s concussions in the pregame warm-ups, so it was only suitable that the Eagles WR burned him for 88 yards on the first play from scrimmage. The Eagles scored at will in the first half, going up by 35 points just one play into the second quarter.
Hours after having a new five-year contract announced, QB Donovan Mcnabb put in a disappointing display against the team that traded him in the offseason, and the talent differential between the two teams was evident.
Eagles: three performances of note
Quarterback Michael Vick (+8.5) is just unstoppable right now. His deep accuracy was elite — he was 4 of 4 for 183 yards and two TDs. Ignoring passes when he was hit, he threw the ball away or he had the ball dropped, Vick was a ridiculous 20 of 24 for 333 yards and four TDs. The change from the pre-jail Vick is most evident in his ability under pressure. On the 11 dropbacks when he felt heat, Vick was 3 of 7 for 139 yards and three TDs. Obviously Vick has retained the mobility that made him so special, recording a rushing rating of +3.5, gaining 57 of his 80 yards after contact and forcing three missed tackles.
Much maligned LT Jason Peters (+3.4) is playing really well right now. In 36 dropbacks, Peters only allowed two pressures garnering a pass-block rating of +1.1. Peters can also pull his weight as a run-blocker (+1.4) and it's no surprise Jerome Harrison‘s long run came over LT. In contrast, RT Winston Justice (-1.1) struggled for the second week in a row. He allowed one sack, one hit and one pressure and was merely average in the run game (-0.1).
Dimitri Patterson (+2.9) has staked a strong claim to the starting right corner spot with incumbent Ellis Hobbs out injured. Patterson was good against the run (+0.7), registering five tackles and three stops (although he did miss one), but he did his best work in coverage (+2.0). The one blip was a 76-yard completion to Anthony Armstrong, but other than that he allowed five of eight balls to be complete for 42 yards with two INTs (one of which was returned for a TD).
Redskins: Three performances of note
Right guard Kory Lichtensteiger (-2.4) really struggled with the Eagles' nickel DTs. In 35 pass blocks he gave up one hit and four pressures, which means he's given up 20 total QB disruptions this year. Surprisingly, Lichstenteiger didn't embarrass himself with his run blocking (-0.1), which had been the norm prior to Monday night's game. Artis Hicks (+0.4) was surprisingly average on the other side, ranking positively in both pass protection (one hit) and run blocking.
Trent Williams (+0.3) struggled at left tackle in pass protection but got after DRE Trent Cole in the run game. The fourth overall pick gave up one sack and five pressures in 35 pass blocks, but more experienced players have done a lot worse. More promising, however, was his impressive display in the ground game (+1.4), which was the highest grade any Redskins player received in any category.
The Redskins could really use an upgrade at LOLB. Veteran Lorenzo Alexander (-5.3) was a shambles against the Eagles. His run defense was pitiful making — zero tackles and three missed. His pass rush was below par, too, with just one pressure in six rushes. Worst of all, however, was his coverage (-2.8). Although he wasn't primarily responsible for any completions, he showed a general lack of zone awareness and was juked out of his shoes on Vick's first TD run.
