- Despite signing him to a deal less than a week ago, the New Orleans Saints decided to release guard Orlando Franklin.
- Franklin is coming off a 2016 with the Chargers where his PFF grade of 41.7 ranked 65th among 74 eligible guards. He struggled in terms of pass blocking efficiency, which measures pressure allowed on a per snap basis, with a rating of 94.2. That was an improvement from a 2015 season where his pass blocking efficiency of 92.0 ranked 80th.
- Despite the recent struggles, Franklin is only 29 and has shown success at both tackle and guard. From 2012-14, Franklin's season grades didn't drop below 83.4. As a tackle in 2012, Franklin recorded a PFF grade of 86.3 which ranked sixth among tackles. His best season as a guard took place in 2014 where his grade of 85.7 was 10th among guards.
