- Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell has seen continued improvement from running back Zach Zenner, who is currently the team’s third running back. However, due to injuries to both Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick, Zenner finished 2016 atop the depth chart for the final three games.
- In 2016, Zenner ranked 52nd out of 62 eligible running backs with an overall grade of 63.7. He was most effective when utilized as a receiver out of the backfield earning the 22nd highest receiving grade (75.3) among running backs.
- Last year, Zenner was effective generating yards after contact and his average of 2.89 ranked 13th among running backs and was the best the mark on the team.
