- According to Field Yates of ESPN, veteran edge-rusher Lamarr Houston worked out for the New England Patriots on Friday. Houston was released by the Chicago Bears this offseason, after a three-year stint with the team that included two serious knee injuries.
- Prior to his injuries, Houston was one of the most promising pass-rushers in the NFL, earning PFF overall grades above 78.0 in every season from 2010 to 2014. During that time, Houston produced 216 total quarterback pressures, the 15th most among 4-3 defensive ends.
- Following the Bears defensive scheme change in 2015, Houston moved to the 3-4 linebacker position and thrived, recording a pass-rush productivity (the PFF metric that measures pressure produced on a per snap basis with weighting towards sacks) of 11.1, the highest mark of his career. However, a torn ACL limited Houston to just 31 snaps in 2016.
- It’s no surprise that Houston is gathering interest from teams, as he showed that he still has some gas left in the tank during the preseason. On 57 pass-rushing snaps, Houston tallied seven total pressures, ending the preseason ranked 24th of 68 3-4 outside linebackers with a pass-rush productivity of 9.6.
