  • After losing veterans Rob Ninkovich, Jabal Sheard & Chris Long this past offseason, the biggest question mark heading into the season for the New England Patriots was their lack of pass rushers on the edge. Through three weeks of the season the question of who will pressure the opposing quarterback has been answered by a pair of young edge defenders out of Arkansas.
  • Trey Flowers, in his second season, has earned an overall grade of 82.2, which ranks T-20th overall among edge defenders. Flowers’ 198 (97.1 percent) defensive snaps ranks third among all Patriots defenders after being used much more sparingly last season (58.9 percent of defensive snaps). His pass-rush productivity of 12.5 (which measures pressure on a per snap basis weighting towards sacks) ranks 11th among 4-3 edge defenders.
  • In his rookie season in which he had been used as a situational pass-rusher, Deatrich Wise had earned an overall grade of 84.2, which ranks 14th for all edge defenders. His 18.3 pass-rush productivity ranks second among 4-3 edge defenders.
