  • The 49ers 2014 second-round pick has been the starter the past two seasons, but with Kyle Shanahan implementing a new offense and the addition of rookie Joe Williams, Hyde will have a battle ahead of him reports Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.
  • The former Ohio State Buckeye has been injury prone in his career but 2016 was the first season Hyde played more than 50 percent of the snaps (63.4 percent in 2016).
  • Hyde did have a career year, falling just 12 yards short of rushing for 1,000 yards and his 3.05 yards after contact per attempt was third in the league among running backs with at least 200 carries.
  • Shanahan’s offense is predicated around pass catching backs. Tevin Coleman led the league in yards per route run (2.58) and Davonta Freeman was seventh (1.59) but Carlos Hyde ranked second-to-last in the league with 0.71.
