- It was a dominant outing for Iowa linebacker Josey Jewell against Michigan State, as he finished with 12 solo tackles and a game-high 10 stops. Jewell now ranks second in the nation with 28 stops after tying for seventh last year with 49.
- If there’s a complaint with Jewell early in the season, it’s his tackling as he’s already missed 10 tackles after missing only 11 last season. That includes a five-missed-tackle game against Iowa State back in Week 2. This is something to keep an eye on as the season progresses.
- Overall, Jewell is a playmaker against both the run and in coverage, and last season he had the fourth-highest percentage of positively-graded plays against the run among draft-eligible linebackers and also ranked fourth by forcing an incompletion on 14.0 percent of his targets.
