NFL Week 14: Highest-graded plays of the week

  • Aaron Rodgers delivers after a week of criticism: The Steelers’ passing game was heavily maligned heading into Week 14 after weeks of struggling to push the ball downfield. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers seemed to take that personally, delivering five big-time throws — including a 55-yard strike to wide receiver DK Metcalf down the right sideline on the Steelers’ opening play of the game.
  • Nick Emmanwori makes an impact on special teams: The Seahawks’ rookie defensive back delivered a big game on defense Sunday, but he also made a major impact on special teams. He perfectly timed his jump off the snap to get in front of the ball as it left the kicker’s foot for the block, earning a +1.5 PFF grade on the play.

This season, we’re launching a weekly series at PFF that provides a behind-the-scenes look at our grading process. Each week, we’ll break down some of the highest-graded individual plays, complete with tweets to show you the action.

Here are a few standout plays from Week 14.

Christian Benford’s game-changing pick-six

The Bills cornerback would have done a solid job simply batting the pass down, but he went one better. He high-pointed the ball off the blitz, broke quarterback Joe Burrow’s tackle attempt, and returned it for a touchdown, earning a +2.0 PFF grade on the play.

One of Aidan Hutchinson’s nine pressures

While Al-Quadin Muhammad records the sack on this play, Hutchinson wins off the edge as well, beating the right tackle instantly with a sharp spin move. A win this quick and decisive earned him a +1.5 PFF grade on the rep.

Nick Emmanwori’s blocked field goal

The Seahawks’ rookie defensive back delivered a big game on defense Sunday, but he also made a major impact on special teams. He perfectly timed his jump off the snap to get in front of the ball as it left the kicker’s foot for the block, earning a +1.5 PFF grade on the play.
